From major supermarkets to start-up brand owners to manufacturers, the event aims to identify and acknowledge the best in sustainable innovation. The ceremony will recognise efforts made by those within the industry who strive to ensure sustainability is at the core of their packaging efforts.

Spectra has been nominated in the Personal Care category for our ongoing commitment to Prevented Ocean Plastic packaging, which began in September 2022.

Gavin Chenery, Commercial Director at Spectra, commented, “The impacts of moving our business to Prevented Ocean Plastics (POP) have already been hugely significant. For example, since introducing POP into our supply chain last year, Spectra has brought in over 161 tonnes of the material, which equates to 6.4 million plastic bottles recovered from coastal regions at risk of ocean plastic pollution”.

He added, “Besides the innumerable environmental benefits of POP, another key driver is how the programme supports developing countries to bring employment, regular income, and safe working environments whilst establishing sustainable recycling infrastructures”.

The awards have been segmented into various categories, including Environmental Champion Award, Sustainable Brand of the Year, and Sustainable Retailer of the Year, as well as Alcohol, Ambient Food, Chilled and Frozen Food, Confectionery, Fresh Food, Household Goods, Online Retail, Personal Care and Soft Drinks.

Spectra is delighted to share the news that Raffi Schieir, Managing Director at Bantam Materials, who are responsible for the Prevented Ocean Plastics programme, has been nominated in the Environmental Champion category.

Gavin added, “We are thrilled that Raffi is being acknowledged for the fantastic work he has done in bringing prevented ocean plastics to an ever-widening audience. His passion and commitment has certainly inspired us, and everyone at Spectra hopes he receives the recognition he so richly deserves”.

The Environmental Packaging Awards occur on Tuesday, 13th June, at The Eastside Rooms, Birmingham.
