Spectra were a finalist in the Environment and Sustainability category in recognition of the company’s ongoing environmental initiatives, taking into account the launch of PCR10, the firm’s mandatory opt-out scheme. This latest initiative will see 10% recycled content added to all future bottle manufacturing and will come into full affect by the end of 2018.

The environmental category, sponsored by Adnams, attracted a number of businesses that demonstrated a true commitment to protecting and enhancing the environment along with the principles of sustainability.

Those shortlisted were expected to demonstrate that business decisions within their organisations continue to be made with a long-term view, taking into account any impact on the environment and long-term sustainable working practices.

The judges were looking for businesses which not only sought to minimise negative impacts but, also make a positive contribution to the local environment while maintaining profitability, criteria confidently satisfied by Spectra Packaging.

Jonathan Powell, Spectra’s Sales Director, who attended the event, said,

“We were delighted to have been considered for the award given the considerable negative exposure recently encountered by the plastics industry. It is heartening to have been included as a finalist in an environmental category and illustrates we are recognised as a responsible manufacturer of plastics”.

Staged at The Hangar at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall in Suffolk, the prestigious black-tie event was compared by comedian and host of the BBC Radio 4 show The News Quiz, Miles Jupp.

With more than 320 guests and representatives from 80 businesses in attendance, the evening drew a broad mix of categories offering recognition for businesses of all sizes, and from all sectors of the economy.

As well as the Environment and Sustainability category, other classifications included, Best Employer, Customer Care, Innovation, Showcasing Excellence, Young Business Person and Business of the Year.

Jonathan added,

“The event showed the incredibly wide breadth of talent and outstanding business achievement in the region and we are proud to be part of it”.

Spectra’s PCR10 initiative has also been included in the “Driving The Circular Economy” category in this year’s Sustainability Awards to be held at Scanpack Gothenburg, Sweden in October.
