Spectra Packaging recognises the challenges facing frontline staff caring for the elderly, which is why the Suffolk based plastic bottle manufacturer is proud to have been able to support local care homes.

Spectra were delighted to have been able to donate dozens of boxes of hand sanitisers to Highfield House in Halesworth, Beech House Residential Home also in Halesworth and Chevington Lodge, a few miles away in Bungay. All three care homes were over the moon with the kind gesture, saying it has helped ‘lift staff spirits’ during what are difficult incredible circumstances.

Those working in the NHS rightly deserve all the plaudits; however, a thought should also be spared for those many other unsung heroes who ensure the UK continues to run the best it can according to Spectra’s Managing Director, Joe Maynard

He said, “Those key workers who have to go to work day in day out throughout this crisis provide so many vital roles for the rest of us. These are the very people who are putting their safety at risk to ensure the wellbeing of others, and in this case, our elderly loved ones. Those working in the care home sector are under particular pressure at the moment and deserve a huge amount of praise and all the support they can get”.

Indeed, the UK’s army of key workers provides a wide range of critical roles that include social care, education, justice, police, firefighters and utilities, to name just a few. They are also involved in food production, processing, distribution, sale and delivery, all of which include vital medical, hygiene and veterinary goods – some of which are manufactured at Spectra’s manufacturing facility.

With nearly 22,000 care homes in the UK, staff are in the frontline, often putting their health at risk to care for those most vulnerable individuals exposed to the virus. These are the vital workers that look after our senior citizens, our family members and our friends.

Usually, on hand every day of the year, those working in the care home sector often work long hours to ensure residents are safe, fed, clean and kept in good spirits at a time when relative visits are restricted to a minimum or not possible.

Joe went on to say, “As a manufacturer of products that can help in the fight against COVID-19, we feel it is only too right to try and help and support those working tirelessly to protect others most at risk during this national crisis”.
