Spectra recently earned the PRS Green Label Award which recognises polymer businesses actively contributing to a circular pallet pooling system to minimise waste.

In line with all its other environmental efforts, this latest measure demonstrates Spectra’s commitment to reducing waste, whilst maintaining a reuse, reduce and recycle ethos.

PRS was formed by Faber Halbertsma Group, a family-owned company with a history dating back to 1891. As one of Europe’s leading poolers, Faber Halbertsma Group is also a producer of sustainable wooden products.

The PRS Green label is an award for the efforts of all the active partners in PRS’s sustainable network of environmentally responsible producers, converters, carriers, depots, traders and distributors.

Gavin Chenery, Commercial Director at Spectra, said, “The PRS network is an excellent example of how businesses can minimise waste and improve the recyclability of their wooden pallets. It’s great to be part of an initiative that works towards a circular world where single-use practices and carbon footprint are reduced”.

Working as a circular pallet reuse scheme, the PRS system works by supplying pallets to plastic polymer producers, which are used to transport their products before being recovered at their customers’ warehouses after the raw material has been unloaded and emptied. After which, the pallets are stored awaiting collection from PRS, who then send them to one of their local depots. The pallets are then inspected, repaired if required and re-supplied to the nearest customer, once again ready to use. At the end of their lifecycle, the pallets are re-processed to produce press-wood products or for use as biomass.

Gavin added, “We’re delighted to participate in schemes such as PRS because we believe it will make a genuine environmental difference and negate unnecessary waste”.
