Spectra recently provided HMP Peterborough with bottles and caps to be used for antibacterial sanitisers for frontline staff.

In the fight against the on-going threat posed by COVID-19, Spectra was contacted by the UK Ministry of Justice, requesting several thousand bottles and caps as soon as possible, which were then filled with antibacterial solution and distributed among the prison service and frontline staff.

Alex Beveridge, Field Sales Representative at Spectra, who oversaw the project, said, “Our production schedules have been incredibly busy as we service high levels of demand for antibacterial packaging since the Government announced its personal hygiene guidelines”.

In response to the enquiry from The Ministry of Justice UK, Spectra was able to adjust congested production schedules to help facilitate the order as quickly as possible with natural 100ml PET Tall Boston Rounds (Ref; 1008) and accompanying flip-top closures (Ref: 3018).

Alex went on to say, “We have tried to support vital front line key staff in all areas of the public and private sector, including the NHS, elderly care homes and other important frontline organisations exposed to COVID-19.”

In line with Government guidance, the prison service has had to make several difficult decisions to protect the safety and wellbeing of its staff and residents to minimise the spread of COVID-19. These include cancelling all social visits until further notice along with commonplace prison regimes, paused temporarily to apply social distancing. These measures are vital in preventing the spread of the virus and keeping prisoners and staff safe.

Existing, well-developed procedures to manage outbreaks of infectious diseases are still in place in prisons, and there have been plans put in place for dealing with staff absences if staff working in prisons need to self-isolate.

Indeed, handwashing facilities are also available to prisoners, staff and visitors, with the prison and the UK Ministry of Justice working closely with suppliers to ensure the supply of soap and sanitising materials.
