In line with our existing apprenticeship programmes, we are now offering 12 month training initiatives to a number of Non technical staff, enabling them to become fully trained machine technicians.

Chris Bridges, Technical Director at Spectra elaborated,

“As the company continues to grow, we have seen the merit in promoting within. A number of our employees on the shop floor have consistently over performed in their tasks, going that extra mile for the company. As a result we have made a conscious decision to invest time in them by rewarding them with skilled opportunities which will benefit both them and Spectra in the long term”.

A number of non-technical staff have been hand-picked and are now being fully trained by Spectra’s skilled engineers. The 12-month programme will also provide a recognised NVQ qualification on completion. The highly trained employee will then be able to carry out a number of skilled tasks. These will include setting up, shutting down and fault finding Spectra’s state-of-the-art blow moulding machinery, which is bought in and then customised to the companies exacting specifications.

Chris continued,

“Skilled staff are the life blood of our company. Our training initiatives are providing non-technical staff genuine opportunities that are normally only available through a traditional engineering background. Much like our successful apprenticeship schemes, this programme shows how serious we are as a company about providing staff with chances to excel even further”.

Spectra are already gearing up for another busy year as growth figures continue an impressive trend. New machinery is being ordered to service a 35% increase in blow moulding capacity. The companies print department has also seen an incredible 50% increase in capacity with equipment including an additional foil blocking machine on order for the coming year.

Chris concluded,

“We’ve encountered continued growth across all departments which is why we are investing in the right personnel to take the business to another level. Our apprenticeship initiatives and our non-technical engineering programme illustrates a long term commitment which is extremely exciting for the future”.
