Spectra Packaging recently participated in The Employer Marketplace event at Lowestoft College.

Over 400 students attended the event, which saw around 40 other local and national employers take part.

The annual initiative, which is now into its fourth year, is designed to offer students and apprentices from the college the chance to find out more about the career opportunities available from a wide range of companies.

As well as giving attendees the opportunity to meet with businesses, the day also gave them an insight into applying for job roles, offering invaluable tips such as preparation for interviews.

Pupils from local schools were also invited, using the event to help them plan for their future career path by finding out which courses and apprenticeships will help them reach their goal.

Initiatives such as The Employer Marketplace have proved successful for Spectra in the past, as the company looks to recruit young talent, something Joe Maynard, Managing Director at Spectra, feels passionate about.

He said, “Spectra’s continual investment in young staff has reaped enormous benefits for the company over recent years. We’ve seen them grow and develop genuine roles within the company, providing a vibrancy of fresh ideas and enthusiasm”.

Spectra have not only trained apprentices to fill permanent roles within the company, they have also helped develop non-technician employees into skilled technician roles by investing time and training prospects for them, successfully turning them into skilled employees with greater responsibilities and opportunities to go further.

Joe added, “Maintaining a healthy mix of younger employees is vital to Spectra’s growth. Given the right opportunities, talented young people can add real value to any company”

Originally created as an engineering event, The Employer Marketplace day has grown and developed over recent years to include other industries. This year saw employers promoting careers in business, construction, finance and the uniformed services as well as those provided by Spectra Packaging.
