2014 proves to be another great year for Spectra
Spectra Packaging have reported another highly successful 12-month period according to Managing Director, Joe Maynard.
End of year figures show we have continued to build on previous annual results with further plans to grow the business in 2015.
Joe said "In the last 12 months we have experienced significant growth which is satisfying considering some of the difficulties facing UK manufacturing. We have worked really hard to ensure we continue to provide our customers with high quality packaging backed by trusted expertise and a solutions-based outlook. 2014 saw the company build on excellent levels of repeat business whilst maintaining a healthy increase in new opportunities".
Indeed, Spectra's continued success produced growth in excess of 15% in a year when we also installed new machinery. With the very latest state-of-the-art machines, we have invested heavily across all departments, including injection and extrusion blowmoulding as well as our busy print facility.
As the business expands, we have also been busy recruiting additional skilled staff to service increased customer demand. New personnel have been assigned positions across all departments, whilst the company has also maintained a fruitful apprenticeship programme, seeing the inclusion of a number of young employees taking up roles within the business.
In 2014 Spectra has also continued to instigate environmentally responsible initiatives across our bespoke 17.4 acre site. These included the on-going planting of trees around our Halesworth based factory as well a number of energy efficient services designed to reduce Co2 emissions.
Internationally, we have also continued to make inroads into a number of European markets with the assistance of additional agents across the continent. The company has expanded its export sales team as they continue to experience an increased presence across European territories such as France, Germany, Scandinavia, Poland and the Czech Republic.
Last year Spectra also exhibited for the first time in Munich, Germany with plans to return this year. In addition, other successful trade show appearances included EasyFairs Birmingham and Making Cosmetics in Coventry. At all three shows we showcased our latest innovation ranges to widespread interest. As a result, some have now been taken into production as standards. Spectra plan to unveil their 2015 ranges next month at Packaging Innovations Birmingham.
In 2014 Spectra also saw a healthy increase in custom tooling projects for a number of known personal care brands. Additionally, the firm continued to launch new standards throughout the year, bolstering their off-the-shelf range to over 150 containers. Our innovative print department has also witnessed significant customer take up for our latest print technologies. These include our 360 degree seamless finishing and our embossed effect printing.
The coming year
Despite our on-going success, Spectra is not prepared to rest on its laurels for the coming year. There are a number of key developments planned in 2015 as we continue to look to the future.
For example, planning permission has been granted to extend our manufacturing site further, bringing the total size up to an impressive 106,000 square foot, a significant increase from the current 56,000 square foot layout.
Additionally, Spectra plan to continue investing in new machinery as well as employing further staff across all departments in the coming year.
Asked about the future for Spectra, Joe saw no reason why the company wouldn’t continue to flourish in the coming year.
He concluded, "Relocating to our current site in Halesworth proved to be an astute decision. We have the flexibility to grow within our surroundings without impacting on the local environment. The business is set up to succeed - we have the drive to improve even further, we have products we firmly believe in and a superb skilled team of people who all have the same desire to make Spectra the number one packaging supplier".
